How to get the WhatsApp blue tick for your business

Updated 8 October 2026 ยท 5 min read

The badge businesses used to call the โ€œgreen tickโ€ is now a blue tick, the same verified badge Meta uses on Facebook and Instagram. There are two ways to get it, and applying for the wrong one is the most common reason for rejection.

Green tick or blue tick?

Meta made the verified badge blue across WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. If someone asks for a โ€œgreen tickโ€ today, they mean this blue badge next to the business name.

The badge is about trust: customers see that the account is the real business. It does not raise your messaging limits or deliver messages better on its own.

Before you apply (either route)

  • Complete business verification in Meta Business Manager (Security Centre) with documents that match your legal name.
  • Use a display name that matches your brand and your website.
  • Fill the business profile: description, address, website, email and category.
  • Turn on two-step verification for the number.

Applying for an Official Business Account

  1. Open WhatsApp Manager, choose the phone number and find the official business account request in its settings โ€” or ask your provider to submit it.
  2. Add links to articles about your business in established news publications. Paid placements, press releases and your own blog do not count.
  3. Wait for Meta's decision. If it is rejected, Meta usually asks you to wait about 30 days, build more coverage and apply again.

Getting Meta Verified

  1. In the WhatsApp Business app or your Meta business tools, open the Meta Verified option.
  2. Choose the plan and confirm the business details and documents.
  3. Meta reviews the application; the badge appears once you are approved and stays while the subscription is active.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy the WhatsApp green tick?

The badge is now blue. You can get it through the Meta Verified subscription if your business qualifies; the free Official Business Account route needs press coverage and cannot be bought.

Do I need the WhatsApp Business API for a blue tick?

The Official Business Account request is made for API numbers. Meta Verified is also available to WhatsApp Business app users.

Does the blue tick increase my messaging limit?

No. Messaging limits depend on business verification, your number's quality rating and how much good-quality messaging you do.

Why was my request rejected?

Usually because the business is not yet notable enough for an Official Business Account. Build independent press coverage, or consider Meta Verified instead.
